“Never mind athletics

We’ll take aaah flex it’s

And mindful bends poses and twists

Arms shoulders knees legs belly wrists

Those fractal returns get greater and greater

As you go the other way from the centre

And act more like the swirls and curls that air does

Slowly in two three aaah two three out two three

Next a stretch to wake those

Muscles and nerves and click your toes

Aaaaahh…nd reeeee…lax again

Up two three and sway that way

Then the other, down again

Pull your breath and push it

Bend your wings and straight and then

Plenty of repeats

Aaaaaahhhh….nnnddd rrreeeeeeelaxxxx…

The world goes from fast to slow

Observe at length so you grow

To be at peace and be dynamic

Fire and water, air, earth, stone

Living energies weave us together

In infinities loops be clear and fine

The exercise strengthens your body

The understanding strengthens your mind

Understanding gives the power to be gentle

Strength gives the softness to be kind

If you haven’t been there already

Had this peace of contemplation

Held you to see our oneness of being

You me unity in infinity

Just a lot of one

All different.”

This wonderful poem was written by Samuel Moore, who is a regular participant of Umbrella Yoga’s online yoga sessions delivered by Laura Merriman, in Partnership with Headway, Huddersfield

Umbrella Yoga is very grateful to be able to do the work we do, and this kind of inspirational feedback makes it even more worthwhile & helps to share our impacts more tangibly. Thank you to Sam, and Headway for sharing this feedback with us.

In Sam’s words, reflecting on what he gets from the sessions:

“The Headway yoga session with Laura has become one of my week’s highlights. Seeing faces we knew, for those of us who might not see many …[or any]… was a good meeting and landing point.

The brilliant technology of being able to all share the space, while being in our homes and do it on zoom means we could carry on … [through Covid] …

Us doing yoga gave us the same benefits it did/does for many traditional practitioners but I am nowhere near Sadhu quite yet! I am still feet-on-the-floor and hands-in-the-washing-up I’m afraid, even if the smile and general sense of wellbeing HAVE gone up a good few notches!”

About our Partners- Headway, Huddersfield:

Brain injury can challenge every aspect of your life – walking, talking, thinking and feeling – and the losses can be severe and permanent. It can mean losing both the life you once lived and the person you once were.

We all think ‘it will never happen to me’, but every year around 350,000 people are admitted to hospital with an acquired brain injury.

That’s one every 90 seconds.

A brain injury can happen to anyone, at any time. When it does, Headway is here to help.”

Umbrella Yoga are delighted to work with organisations that truly change lives, and Headway truly do.
